Leaves of absence present one of the most complicated areas of employment law with
which employers grapple. In addition to employer-provided vacation or paid time off benefits, numerous federal and Massachusetts laws provide employees with leave
benefits – some paid, while others are unpaid. Employers must be aware of leave benefits available to their employees, and they must develop and implement appropriate policies to comply with the applicable laws and to ensure employees understand their
rights. This training for managers and HR personnel addresses the various statutory leave benefits available to Massachusetts employees (FMLA, PFML, Earned Sick Time, etc.); how these laws interact with one another, and how to properly address.
